La cadena pública británica BBC lanzará el próximo 27 de julio su servicio de televisión a la carta, que permitirá descargar a través de Internet sus programas de radio y televisión. El servicio será gratuito y permitirá que los usuarios puedan acceder a los programas de televisión y radio emitidos en los siete días previos, así como descargar episodios de sus series favoritas.
Gracias al sistema iPlayer, que ha requerido casi tres años de desarrollo, el público podrá guardar durante 30 días las descargas en sus ordenadores y una vez abierto el archivo con el programa, sólo podrá verse durante una semana, a fin de asegurarse de que las ventas de DVD no se ven perjudicadas. La cadena británica planea extender este servicio a los teléfonos móviles. El sistema iPlayer estará disponible también en YouTube a finales de año.
